Thanks. I know I'll have to make some decisions on what's really needed and respect feasibility of my abilities. The last thing I want to do it start something and not finish it. Which is why I'm picking all the pro's brains here.

I like it. I'm not concerned about the speed of the build. I have a mentality of a do it right the first time.

I agree. When I was a teen I built a CJ7 with a roof rack that quick disconnected from the light bar and hinged off the rear bumper to remove the top but keep the track on. Did all the fab myself and it worked great.
 
If you’re doing anything with tree overhang those over cab options start to suck

The 6.2 can be lots of things, ls3, lt, or a stinky crank breaking dispel, I mean diesel

All three will fit, some better than others

Yeah I was thinking the LS3.
 
Fitting and being comfortable for 12 hours is two different things

Ls3 is a good choice. They don’t come with passenger drop transfer cases on the factory transmissions that come with them

I thought of that, and Im just planning for the times when we all go. If anyone stays behind it'll probably be the wife. My kids are into everything I am. Even the girls. Fishing, hunting, backpacking, dirtbikes. I tried to sneak out to go duck hunting by myself and the girls were up before I was!

That's what I meant by "option", putting in a bench front seat. I just got to get us all to sit in different configurations to really answer that question. Thanks!

It sucks to get in the back that way

I haven’t seen three rows in a k5
If there is, the back row has zero leg room, and the bouncing being the axle will probably make your kids puke

Should be fun!

I mean that's the goal right? Rhino line the cab floor so cleaning puke is a breeze!
 
I have a Tahoe rear seat in my K5. It has 3 sets of seatbelts. Its not big but 3 kids fit fine. If you put a bench seat in the front then you would fit 6 ok. The wheel wells are the limitation in the rear stopping you from using multiple bucket seats or a full width bench.

If you can buy smart, hit sales and do all the work yourself, you can build a nice rig for $15,000 but that $20,000 number is more realistic.
