Hey guys how about this mount . Z3PR that Acorn mount you linked to do I still need the spring with that one and will it flex enough to use a fiberglass antenna also?

Thanks

Ira
The spring is up to you. I like too use a heavy duty spring so it'll lay over, less likely too snap off.

All right I think I have it figured out. I hate having wires show but I also do not want to make the truck any wider than it already is->a ball mount is out of the question. My plan is to drill a hole in the upper hinge for the spare tire mount and bolt up a HD acorn mount on top of that will be a HD pot belly spring then the 102 whip. With the mount and spring when I put a fiberglass tuneable antenna on it should put the antenna above the top enough to keep SWR down. If there is any error in my thinking please let me know. Know I just gotta figure out how to get the cable inside the cab  . Maybe I can go behind the tail light.

sounds like a good plan. u dont wanna drill any holes in the body? u could run it all the way up front inside the panel, there is so much room in there. just have to pop the top screws off and drop it in. would be quick, easy, and out of sight

A few things to note here Ira,
You will need a HD spring for the 102. Mine has a very high rate to it and the antenna still swings back pretty far at highway speeds. The tip of my antenna at rest is about 14' 6" from the ground too though. If you were to get a medium duty spring hte antenna would whack the car behind you at speed.:haha:

The ball mount is not out of the question, neither is the acorn style. I like both though the acorn will work better as long as you are going to mount it on a Horiz. surface. The main reason for the ball mount is so that you can mount it on a vert. and still have the antenna pointing up.

Also both the acorn and ball mounts need to have a 1" hole drilled in whatever you mount them to.

How big is the mount for the ball mount? I saw a picture of a truck on here with one right above the rear tail light so I think I can mount mine there on the drivers side taillight and with a HD spring it should get the fiberglass antenna high enough to keep SWR low. I am not really worried about SWR with the whip if it is as good as everyone says it should be close.

I am using the the upper bracket of a body mounted swing carrier - I can get pics in a few days.

I would suggest that you get rid of this mounting for the tire though. I have a few warps in the body panel and a smashed tailgate from those POSs. Move to a different spare mount and keep the brackets :wink1: I bet the lower bracket would be good for a 102" if you wanted to make that permanent

You can see the ball mount i have in this pic. Having the whip that close to the body might make the VSWR a little high but i doubt thst it will have a huge affect as teh top is fiberglass......right? Having the antenna low is not near as bad for the VSWR as having the antenna close to a steel panel off of the ground plane.
Also keep in mind that the ground plane is what actually radiates the RF not the antenna. So if you have the antenna on the rear pass side the ground plane on X-mit will be pushed to the driver side front. Basically you will transmit most of your power in that direction. About the 11 O'Clock position.

Here is another question what is a good low price amp if one exists. I dunno if I need one but more power is allways sweet. Roz is an ET so he can help with all of the specifics of tuning and such. I have been looking online but I R mechanic and do not understand trons all that much.

Ira

So just so I understand. The antenna recieves along the full length of itself hence 102 whip is ideal due to the frequencies that CB operate more of the wave is "intercepted" by the antenna. But when transmitting the signal is sent out through the attachment of the antenna to ground so if in the middle of the roof surrounded by metal it is pretty much uni-directional. Front driver signal goes rear passanger and vice-versa?.

Ira

Sounds like you understand.

As for the amp, I run an X-Force X200. Not the most powerfull but it does get out. Z3PR might know better than i do on the amp subject.
