Hello all,

I found a 89 Chevy K3500 4wd, 3-speed automatic transmission, 7.4 v8 ohv 16v 454, disc brakes in front, drum in back, non ABS on CL with a "blown motor" for 700 bucks. I thought all HD trucks were 14 bolts rear ends. I inspected the thing and I have no idea what this axle is. I've done some searching and cant figure out what this is, but it's 10 bolt and has no RPO codes for dana 70.

I am still pretty new and an axle swap is not something I will have a clue about until I delve in. Just trying to make the swap as painless as possible, but upgrade to the different gear ratio, weight etc. Would be throwing this on an 85 suburban.
Also, do wheel conversion spacers suck? I currently have some brand new 6x6.5 bolt pattern wheels and meat. Is this just needing to be sold and purchase new wheels?

Guess im just trying to see if this is worth throwing 700 bucks at to sit storage in my garage for a while till I can do the swap.

Also, would you try and part this out or keep and add to mine? Supposedly that transmission is a fresh rebuild with receipts and only a few months old with no miles on it. It's from a shop that couldn't get the engine running again with out substantial cost. The owner wouldn't pay them since they didn't fix it and just surrendered the vehicle to him. Thoughts?

It's a Dana 70 2 or 3 HD. I had one in the 88 I just sold, also in the 89 that I SAS'd years ago. They have a funky offset carrier so getting gears or a posi difficult. For whatever reason I don't think GM used a 14ff in those years of trucks. At least I've never seen one...
