help with ecm please!

I have an 88 k5 and I tried to read codes with paperclip and obd1 scanner and it won't work it seems like my truck is running rich and smells like sulfur from exhaust is it the ecm that is bad or prom chip in took out the ecm and it has a Hypertech prom in there and help would be greatly appreciated

Yes it was the ecm I just put a new one in and it's running really smooth ses light turned off too
