I am putting ECTED's and 4.56's into my 86 blazer with 10 bolts. Since I am changeing the pinion I dont want to pull the bearing off the old one just to measure the shim. What is a good starting point for shim thickness?
What size shims do you guys have on you pinion for 4.56 gears?

Thank for your /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

why not use the shims that are on the old pinion. With the quality of gears available to consumers, it will probably be VERY close to correct for pinion bear preload and pinion depth.

yeah i used the same shims off the old pinion. Although i had to put different shims on the dif bearings, it went together perfect
