okay i need help with something on my 97 chevy 1500 4.3 v6. its a 2WD with a 4l60e transmission, for some reason it wont go into 4th gear, sometimes it will and sometimes it doesnt, yesterday i drove 15 miles before it finally shifted, just this past weekend it never did shift into 4th but this morning it shifted fine, this transmission when i put it in the truck had 10k miles on it i dont think thats a whole lot, but the fluid level is fine and its not burnt at all looks brand new, and it shifts fine even when it does go into 4th gear theres no slipping the shifts are good and firm. someone had told me the front pump needs replaced does that sound like it? or maybe transmission filter needs replaced? im just wondering if its something that can be fixed i dont think its going out cuz it does shift fine when it does shift. and sorry if this is wrong thread or wrong truck for this forum :dunno:

actually thats what i want to do lol. but everyone says making an auto to a manual is next to rocket science

yeah and i have no idea what all i need, wonder if i could find all the stuff at a junkyard? wish i could find a parts truck cheap just steel everything from it

thats it? i wouldnt even need transfer case its only a 2WD. and trucks my year came with manuals so would the holes already be there for mounting or would i have to fabricate?

2wd makes life a little easier as trannys are easier to find... You will just have to drill out the holes for the clutch master cylinder... They are dimpled in the firewall, just not drilled.... The clutch pedal just bolts in..

Sounds easy enough gonna do a little research and pricing, maybe il get something going before the whole thing goes out

If you need any help my trucks a good point of reference. Idk what you use the truck for but I just did an s10 nv3500 swap in my truck (street rod type DD) for the close ratios it has.

i use mine as a DD. mainly highway driving and on weekends (if im not driving the blazer) in town driving. id like it to have some power to it but not necessary its a 4.3 in a full size truck cant ask for much haha
