I have an 86 M1009 K5. The problem seems to be only on the 12v side of things, and asking questions over at that .mil vehicle board sucks. So, maybe youse guys can help me out.

So, here's the issue. It started out the other night. Driving along, and I honked my horn. When I did this, the right signal blinker came on solid. Turning on the signal, it would start flashing. Hm. Turned the truck off, signal light went out and things were seeming back to normal. Until I honked the horn again! So, I got home and started messing around. With the key out of the ignition, the right blinkers will flash, but the indicator doesn't light up. (the light under the headlight and the sidemarker both flash). However, if I turn the headlights on, they stop flashing, and do not light up at all. With the key on, same situation.

Is this indicative of a burnt out bulb somewhere, or a bad ground, or what??

Thanks!

This really sounds like ground problems. And maybe even some good old-fashioned spaghetti wiring work done by a previous owner....

Try disconnecting the horn itself and see what happens. I mean at the horn on the fender and then pushing the horn button.

I got this straight from the military. All the wiring seems to be original. Nothing is cut anywhere, its all still loomed up with what appears to be original looming. I did check the bulbs today and they are all fine.

I'll try what you suggested and report back.

If the problem doesn't happen until the horn button is pushed, it sounds like there's something wrong with the horn contacts inside the column.

If there was a missing or intermittant ground, then the blinkers wouldn't be going on. Both the blinker switch and the horn contacts are in the column under the horn button.
