Building a 91 V2500 suburban, 4wd. I pulled the original 350 and built a 90 454, bored TBI, vortec heads, cam, intake. Its attached to a 4l80 trans. Motor/trans is in, and I ordered a set of Hedman Elite full length headers that were for 88-95 7.4l, 4wd. The guy at Summit said they would work with the Vortec heads, but they won't fit. Spent 4 hours trying to fit them, lifted the motor, clearanced the frame on the drivers side, but no joy. Does anybody know if the angle of the exhaust ports are different on vortecs vs. PP heads? Or am I just doing something wrong? I've succeeded in scratching the headers, so they can't be returned. I'm at the point of breaking out the cutting/welding tools, but want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks:dunno:

Just going to take a shot in the dark here, but two things:

88-95 is different body, even with standard heads they shouldn't fit.

On the SBC nothing changed vortec/non-vortec in regards to exhaust fitment. If BBC stayed the same, your problem is likely based on the body style/frame changes.

I would want to verify the Vortec question though, since I'm not 100% certain, and would hate for you to cut them up based on that. Sucks, thsoe are coated, going to kill the coating welding them. :(

x2 ordered for wrong body/frame style.

and search the garage section for few part #'s and brands we have found fit the best and clear the front leaf shackle bolts.

that parts guy should give you a refund for wrong info / part sold.

also last year 91 crewcab 1ton you could get 454 and 4l80-e so order a set for that .

I *think* what he is saying is that HE specified the wrong type, the guy at Summit told him they would work with Vortec heads, which is probably true, IF he had an '88-95 truck. :)

I would probably try selling them to someone with that truck before modifying them, IMO pointless to destroy the coating on a set of headers. Even if they are rusty in a spot, going to be far worse once cut and welded, someone else might be willing to take the scratch for a bit less in price. Then no work to get the proper ones, with intact coating.

I agree, since (as I understand it) there were no 4wd 454 Sub's he'll need to order headers for a '91 V3500 crew cab with a 454 & 4L80E.

It's very important that whoever takes the order understands and finds the V3500 application or else the headers will be for the wrong body style truck.
