Help with newbie problems...

I'm a newbie, going to pickup my first K5 (84) tomorrow 4-9-04. It has a few problems, none too serious. I would very much appreciate some help with some of them.

the interior panels in the rear have been removed and left some very ugly and rather dangerous looking brackets. My thought is to mount a piece of wood to them and use it for a backing to a rack system (good for holding SCUBA tanks, gas tanks, camping gear, and such). Think the brackets will hold up?

i dont know how your brakets look, and its been so long since i've had mine off i cant really remember too well, but can you get some plywood, and bolt it to the upper railing? that would seem sturdy but the bottom would have to be mounted also.
