I recently ordered a set of chrome tow hooks from LMC, however I failed to check ahead of time to see if my truck could take them as bolt on. I don't see where these bolt to? The factory cut outs are there on the air defector, so I assumed my truck would have least the place to bolt. I have a 91 GMC Jimmy. Has any one had experiecne with the LMC Tow hooks? or any suggestiosn. Am I going to have to have something fabricated to support the hooks?

Thanks

Are the hooks you bought a direct replacement part for your year vehicle? There were at least 2 different style of tow hooks used on the blazers/jimmy's

At least on the '81-91 trucks, the hooks simply bolt to the frame, using a nut/bolt/washer setup. There is nothing that "supports" the hooks, other than the bolts.

'91 the holes on the hooks should be "offset", not a straight line. IIRC, the 73-80 hooks are more of a straight line bolt pattern, as well as the hooks having a "straight line" profile (if you lay them on flat ground, they will lay flat) while the 81-91 hooks are bent in such a way that they won't lay flat, which when installed angles them inwards.

Not sure if these are exact replacements for 1991. The LMC catalog didn't specify a year. These are aftermarket. So based on the feedback, my 91 Jimmy should have at least two holes there to bolt the hooks? questions is, do I have the right hooks. I will investigate more.

Thanks

You definitely have the wrong ones, cause they are chrome :doah: :haha:

But seriously the front end of all 81-92 trucks should be the same.

Yep, definitely not stock. Go find some factory hooks, FAR better than those things.

Those look like stock brushguard tow hooks to me.

Yep, i have a set on my front Warn bumper brush/winch guard. The funny thing is, i did not want the chrome hooks when i bought mine and the black were cheaper anyways, but guess what...about 7 years later the black paint has rubbed off and the hooks are chrome under the black paint. :haha:

I still have the factory tow hooks on my rig though and have never had to use either set "Yet".

This is a hook off a 90' LWB. Beefy!

The bolts just drop through the frame and hook, and get threaded into that plate. I had these mounted on a 2wd along with the 4wd deflector. The holes were already there. IIRC, got both hooks and hardware for less than $20 at a pick-a-part.

Dunno anymore but a few years ago I bought a set like that from GM for less than $25 with the hardware. Never hurts to call and ask.

The ones on my K10 (stock) are twice that thick. Not bragging just pointing out that those are wimpy. :D
