Help with Zero-Rate install?

Can someone give me some advice on how to drill out my U-bolt plates to move the axle forward 1.5". I'm drilling with oil and low RPM with slight pressure but I'm making really, really slow progress. Can anyone recommend a quicker way to do it? Also, how small of a bit should I start with? I have an angle grinder which could make the job go alot faster but I'm afraid to cut that big of a groove into the plate for fear of compromising it's strength. Any advice helps. Thanks guys

I don't have a drill press and the bit is brand new.

Well if you didn't use oil, its probably dull now.

I used oil. I'm just wondering if it would work better if I applied more pressure or if I ran it at a faster RPM. I've always heard it was best to drill metal slowly but I could be wrong.

Just chuck it in the drill, pull full throttle and put all your weight on it, should work rather well /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Your bit probably won't last long but it will drill 2 holes /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif It's the way I always work except when using the mill but I just resharpin my bits on the bench grinder everynow and then, all the bits I buy are dull and need to be sharpened, 3 bucks a pound /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i just finished putting mine on and you really need to find a drill press, i had mine done in about 10 minutes at the base metal shop, a machine shop could probablly do it to for a few bucks, just get the piolt hole done in the correct place /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
