I am hoping to find some info on a vortech motor swap. Heres the deal, a friend of mine has a '94 suburban with a TBI 5.7L motor in it. He picked up a 7.4L 454 vortech from '98 truck that has Multi port injection on it. THe motor came with all accessories and wiring harness was unplugged at the firewall and the PCM and fuse box from under hood came with motor. THe problem we are having is that when we start the motor it automatically dies. We got to doing some research and found out that the reason it is doing that is because of the factory alarm. We found out that we can send the PCM to a company in san antonio and they can burn that option out of the computer but we are hoping to be able to just remove a wire from the PCM or maybe ground a certain wire or send power to it. We have a wiring diagram for the '98 harness PCM and it list ALL of the wires going to the PCM and which each ones does and it isnt even showing to have any wire related to the alarm. I believe the alarm system is called Pass lok 2 or something something like that. We found some more info about bypassing it and supposedly on the '98 there is a Orange wire with a black tracer, yellow wire, and a red with white tracer that are under the dash and on the steering column and they have to do with the alarm but that doesnt help because we need to know which wires they are under the hood and we dont have those colors. I know this is a long shot but I am hoping maybe someone has done this before.

I know on earlier rigs GM used "VATS", and there was a resistor of a specific value embedded in the key. Without the correct resistance on the correct wire to the ECM, the vehicle wouldn't start. I'd be surprised if it's much more complex than that, although it's probably been integrated into the lock cylinder or something along those lines.

It's a simple switch in the PROM, but as you have probably found out, if you can't do it yourself, it can cost a fair chuink of change.

I know my wifes 2002 Avy has the (vats) sort of thing integrated into the key cylinder not the key.
It can be bypassed, but good luck.
