My buddy wrecked his 03' f150 and his seat belts are locked all the way out and they wont retract. Any clue on how to unlock them or does he have to replace the retractor?

Probably going to have to get new ones, i think they do that so you cant re use the belts, not only that but the fabric gets stretched to the point where if the belts are in an accident again they could break (just what i have heard). Kind of like motorcycle helmets once they are involved in an accident your not suppsed to use them again.

I'd try pulling the covers off and looking at the retractor to see if anything is bent in there. never heard of onetime use seat belts but i could be wrong. the other point that was made i dont think is true, i remove and install engines and transmissions for work and i have been using the sameseatbelt for years to pull and install engines. double knot. she gets a good strech every time never worried me about it breaking tho.

Newer vehicles have seat belt "pre-tensioners" that are part of the air bag system. They have a charge in them that detonates same time as the air bag that locks the seatbelt in place. They cannot be reused.
