I spent 41/2 days restoring my floor prior to Herculine. I am water tight like a boat now, really happy with the product as well as the result.

Looks pisser!..Now,if they only had Herculiner available in the 70's,and GM applied it to both top and bottom of all the sheet metal & frame--wonder how many more K5's and trucks would still be around today ?..

All of them. LOL!

I had the entire interior and up over the bedrails done in speedliner by a shop, along with the fender wells and bottom foot or so of the jimmy and also did the grill. When I built a box for my triple stick shifters for the interior I herculined it and the new transmission hump I altered. They turned out great and look as good as the stuff I paid to have sprayed on.

Sweet!!! I did my lower body and 'flares' with it. Gonna go your route when I replace the cancer. Too bad they discontinued the other colors.

I spent less than $150 USD I bought the kit, an extra quart of paint, one extra 2" brush, a flap sand disk for my angle grinder, and a gallon of acetone. I talked with another K5 driver today that told me Linex told them $1600 for the bed and rockers. I didn't just line it.The bed is repaired and restored. It took a lot of patience but I made it correct.

When I took the top off my 76 k5 in March of this year I pulled the rear carpet out and herculined the bed because it was my daily driver and sometimes driving in the rain or it sitting out in the rain was unavoidable. It's still holding up good, can't beat the price either, I even got 25% off by ordering it online through pep boys, got the whole 1 gallon kit for like 70 bucks.

did was called ZEBART :D then the epa shut them down man :doah:

Im the odd duck, I've done the herculiner on two different blazers and Id never do another.

The hours spent to do it correctly is quite significant, the end product fades with UV exposure, the surface is quite ruff and eats skin off, the finish stays somewhat "rubbery" rather than rock hard like a pro job.

Id also never put it on the rockers ect, the dirt it traps and fading is terrible.

I definitely understand the cost not being appealing of a pro job. I was able to find a local place to do the jeep tub for about 425 if I recall.

ya some of these pro shops think there GOLD and we NEED TO PAY THEM :haha:

maybe ask them what prep and how much off if you do it .

I've seen many cars that had the ZIEBART treatment and still rotted away,it just took a few years longer..my dad had a '76 Torino wagon for a company car at the gas plant, the dealer insisted it should have the rustproofing..--it had rot showing by 1979 in the rear "dogleg" area and wheel wells in the rear...maybe they didn't spray enough in those areas, the rest of the car held up good..
I recall the stuff they used being a yellowish goop that would only semi-harden up..but I have seen quite a few cars that had it that didn't rust out too..(back then I believe they gauranteed "no rust or your money back" or they would repair it no charge..maybe that is what put them under ?)

Best factory undercoating I had on a car was my '85 VW Jetta diesel..that car had stickers from a lot of different colleges all over the USA and had 252,000 on it,yet the underside was still pristine..looked like some kind of sprayed on melted plastic stuff...maybe the car didn't spend much time in the rust belt..but I have peeked under a lot of other VW's like it,and only a few had any real rust to speak of..

I used to sell some stuff years ago made by either Morton or Car-Groom that was really good undercoating, there was 3 different types ,all were specially designed for certain areas..inside doors was one, another was for in the "blind cavities" like rockers, and the other was a "general purpose" one for the undercarriage..the one for the doors would flow like paint, then gel up--the one for rockers went on thick and wouldn't sag or run,the undercarriage stuff would harden up on the surface but remain somewhat flexible underneath,so it wouldn't crack or flake off..

I would never use Dupli-Color bedliner, after having a few sour experiences with it and reading online about dozens more...Herculiner is good though..
I see Rustoleum has one out now too,but I've never tried any yet..

I used it on my 74k5, just fine for me. I don't throw stuff around on it too much tho.

Has not worn off around the drivers floor area.

Prep is everything. It won't stay shinny like that, it will dull after a while.

Agreed.

Much better DIY kits out there for very little cost difference.
