Any suggestions on prep for Herculiner? I'm planning on doing the Blazer from the door handles down on the exterior. Planning on throwing a light sand on it and then putting the Herculiner on.

Needs to be really clean. I sanded mine with 60 grit, washed and dried it, then wiped it down with xylene. Supposedly xylene doesn't leave a residue like some other prep stuff.

i used comet cleanser with a couple of red scuff pads to clean, scuff, prep my bed.I had good paint on it no peeling or rust but thats all i did then wiped it with xylene before i applied it.dont get it on anything it dont come off.if its on your hands i think you can use this stuff called skin so soft.some sort of girl sh*t i found at my moms house but it works. /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

AFAIK, mineral spirits doesn't leave a residue either and its a lot cheaper... not to mention if you end up inhaling some fumes, you don't want them to be xylene. When I did my herc I had the hardtop on and there was like NO wind at all that day, those xylene fumes were just stayin in the back with me... I really believe I was a few mins from passing out when my dad came out to see what I was doing and said "holy [darn]!!! what is that smell?" At that point I felt light headed and couldnt smell a thing.

Anyway, long story short, if you use xylene, do it in a very well ventilated area...

denatured alcohol rules for panel prep for any painting type stuff, from metal to fiberglass... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif slightly stinky, but not too bad /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
