Here I go again on my own.... Another 383 stroker thread....

Ya his rig is pretty damn sick....
I wish I had bought that (I think 98) chevy 2500 350 (yes, def 350 so before it was done away with) vortec running for $500.... just slid the body inbetween a tree and a telephone pole... still had a good 14bff..... :doah:

The difference between 5K and 6K is nominal if it gets me to the point where I'm competeing with a diesel. :pimp:

Maybe finding a nice cummins out of a dodge is in my future.

Decisions suck, I wish I had the money for one of each. :thumb:

Spending $5-6K for a 383 seems goofy to me.....

Since about the 60's, V8 engines have been able to produce 1HP/Cubic Inch pretty easily....(and cheaply!) As you start to increase that ratio.....(more power for a given displacement) you start buying more premium parts and the budget quickly goes into the stratosphere.

A modest 454BBC can hit your numbers a lot more easily than a 383SBC will...and if you're going to TQ numbers like 450 - 500LB/Ft, I'll even wager that the BBC will do it cheaper.

500 LB/Ft from 383 Inches is not easy or cheap.

FWIW -> I've having a 502 built for me right now (for less than the $$$ you are looking to spend), and it will probably be installed into the K5 this winter. Since you're so close you might want to look me up and I'll take you for a ride!!! :usaflag:

So are you praising the bbc or saying its overated?

I could get 510(says dd2000) ft lbs at 2000 rpm out of my tbi sbc using methonal injection from snow but it would be like n20 in a way only coming on at certain throttle pressure and your talking about alot more hassle for numbers that a cammed bbc with good heads will do without breaking a sweat. Like I said I wouldn't be jimmying my sbc using 1500 dollar heads and spending 2 grand on specialty efi tuning stuff if I didn't have to deal with CA smog... I would rather drop a bbc in her and be done with it.

Actually 502 is a little pricey but this should be just about exactly what your looking for... spend 1500 or so on Fuel injection and your done... 500 ft lbs at 3250 rpm and it runs on dogwater 87 octane(actually not sure it says premium fuel but compression is only 8.75:1). Don't get much better than this beast.

Oh and I figured out how to get a screen shot of the desktop dyno numbers... here they are, changed the timing to 5 degrees advanced and figured out the static compression ratio.

I don't know if you are asking me that question or not but if you are I'm praising BBC's. I can't wait to get mine in. I bought a complete Gen V 454 with all brackets, accessories, manifolds, TBI, .....everything for $600. When I"m done I'll have a MPFI 468 and barring no surprises I will have right at $4200-$4500 in it. If I have my Dyno2000 right it will be producing well over 500lb/ft. of TQ from 2000 RPM - 4000 RPM where it "falls" to a paltry 491lb/ft. !!!!!!! The beauty of it is that when I tow my camper (28 ft.) I cruise at 2400-2600 RPM so my peak TQ is right where I need it. I think the latest Duramax's produce 600+ TQ but I don't know how many others are putting out 500+ on the TQ side. I wanted an engine that wouldn't bog down to 35-40 MPH towing my camper up hills. I want to be able to motor right on up. I feel very confident that the 383 would be in a totally different league than the stock TBI 350 but I think the 468 will be in a different league than the 383. We'll soon see. Good luck with your build.

agreed... a hot bbc will beat a hot sbc every time because of the cid but not by much. And sorry to say the fuel injection is gonna jack that price up. Your gonna need to get it tuned with dyno time or do it yourself to get it right and make the numbers desktop dyno says it'll make. If you get a "mail order chip" where you tell em your specs and they burn you a chip you'll be leaving ALOT on the table... they will get it to run and be drivable but you will never get your full power potential like that. Also you said you got the tbi for 600 and when your done you'll have mpfi... are you planning the edelbrock system? I know this is hawkeyes thread but this has alot to do with what he's planning.

what is vafpr? and try again on your PN, its not a valid number.

No he got it right....http://members.cox.net/ecfa/help/TBI%20Fuel%20Pressure.htm but I think it might have been discontinued

and vafpr is adjustable fuel pressure regulator... not sure what the v stands for.

And you'll need ALOT more than that thing to keep your tbi. Computers are a bitch.

"beast" are you asking me this question? If so I plan on using the Howell MPFI unit. It is basically the Edelbrock intake but Howell uses bigger injectors and a different TB. Yes, it is a "mail order" chip that they include with the system. The entire system runs $1200.

just got my regulator today from ryan supply in hattiesburg , ms for $42.95. they are not available to the dealership anymore. you have to find a ac delco parts supplier. by the that price is there cost. I found a marine shop that could get it for $120.00. these were put on marine tbi units for the 454. 502, and 350 magnum.

yeah

Not sure what you mean... first you said tbi for 600 but your saying its mpfi, is it the system that runs off the stock computer and uses a tbi without the injectors? Or a full blown mpfi system? I'm guessing its the first because its hard to find a full blown mpfi system for 1200. I was gonna go with the system(for a sbc) that runs the tbi computer and tb without tbi injectors in it until I called edelbrock... they told be the system would only support about 350 hp. My current holley tbi system will support 430 or so with 23 psi and some injector spacers so the mpfi is out. They use the stock air inlet size from the stock throttle body so your really not gaining any power potential just benefits of mpfi. It will however support more than 350 hp if its blown or turboed... the main problem is the amount of air.
