OK, its a 79 jimmy with an 80,s pickup cab. Tilt steering and the turn signal/wipers are on the column.when i finished every thing worked fine. Two off road trips and i have no turn signals? The fourway flashes work though.AND, when lighting strikes, the wipers come on?????it has happened twice.no key in the ignition.is it the steering column? A bad ground?

Weird electrical issues always make me guess bad ground first. Did you remember to use a ground strap from the bed to the frame? - and make sure they have a good metal to metal connection, no paint and preferably using dielectric grease.

No dielectric grease. Maybe i needed to use star washers? I dont get the time frame, other than rust..

My next dumb question. Does it have to be the woven / exposed strap.or will a battery cable work? (With eyes manufactured on both ends?) I have three cables, with no change.

Ground is ground, doesn't matter if its insulated. The wiper motor is hot at all times and ground switched, so it is grounding out and turning on.

My '79 C-10 had the "ghost wipers" syndrome,I never did figure out why--it had delay wipers,so I figured it was that printed circuit module dewhickey under the dash... the wipers worked normally with them turned on,but once in a while they would come on by themselves with the wiper switch off, most often when I stepped on the brakes..sometimes it didn't do it for weeks..
It was kinda creepy, like it was haunted!....

If it has a combination switch (wipers, turn signals, cruise) on same switch you need a new switch

I had a problem with tail/turn/brake lights years ago .

my factory frame clips for the rear harness had snapped off from age and the harness was rubbing the exhaust pipe at times and shorting out .

Thank you Gentleman. Im ok at somethings, but chasing wiring ghosts is not on of them. I love to DD jr,but some cities are just waiting to get me.lol
