Just when I thought I had it running good....it dies on me while taking the Mrs. for a ride....It ran like crap getting it back home....fuel was dripping from one injector and a misty fog was rising from the other port.....when you turn on the key, the driver side fuel injector starts spraying, but not the passenger side...it will start but of course has the boggle, no power, and strong exhaust.....what the @$#&*@#$#%$ is going on (sorry, I quit smoking 5 weeks ago and just had a venting moment)...I will not give up....I will not give up....I will not give up. :1zhelp:

**** dude. yeah i just got my rig road trip worthy and i take it on a road trip. i get a power steering leak, driveshaft leak!! and an oil leak all on the same trip. the cap that is on the end of the slip yoke came out and was leaking tansfer case fluid everywhere. this was all within a week, on an island. parts stores were all on the mainland. thank god i have mcgyver!

Soooooooooooooooooo.....what could be causing the problem with the one fuel injector spraying with just the key turned to on and motor not running?....seems like the pump is working but why is it shooting fuel through one injector and not the other?

Key on, engine not cranking, and ONE injector leaking fuel, it could be bad o-ring or injector. I know folks talk about the leaking injector seal/rings quite a bit with TBI.

What happens if you turn the key to run (making sure the fuel pump primes) then turn the vehicle off once the fuel pump prime stops? Does the injector continue to "spray" fuel?

No...once you turn key off, injector stops spraying.....If you hold foot pedal to floor while cranking engine, it will start but has no power and will not idle. Then when engine dies, fuel leaks out the one injector....Nothing is coming out of the other injector....It ran fine 2 days ago...I filled it up and then went on a drive the next day....then this problem started. Maybe it's haunted. :haha:

Hopefully some of the TBI guys will chime in, but leaking fuel when it dies sounds to me like the injector seal or o-ring (whatever it is) is leaking.

Another concern is why is only one injector spraying (priming), and the other one isn't....aren't both supposed to prime when you turn the key on? Any TBI gurus out there, please help.

the injectors shouldn't be putting out any gas until it sees the engine cranking. If they are spraying, or dripping with the key on engine off, either the injector or seals are bad. Also, with the throttle at WOT, during cranking, the computer doesn't pulse the injectors, so there should be no gas during that either.

I pulled the solenoid off the injector in question and when I turned the key to run it still sprayed a nice cone shaped spray.

sounds like it's stuck on, needs to be replaced. by "solenoid" you mean electrical plug on injector? Might not be a bad Idea to replace them both.

Ok....here's what I found out....first, the electrical connectors were replaced a week ago...second, I pulled both injectors to check the O-rings and the small O-ring on the leaking injector had a small pinch on it. I was able to work out the pinch and reinstalled the injectors....Can you guess what happened next? DING...That's right...after a few cranks it started and now runs again...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!! Now for hopefully the last problem....There is a strong exhaust odor and light smoke continuously coming out the tailpipe...is there anything that causes that?...something that can be done without major work on the heads? or (gulp) the engine?

the smoke could be all the gas you were dumping in, it might still be burning it out. Or, Pull the pcv valve out of the valve cover, and go around the block and see if it clears up.

I might know why the O-ring got messed up....Correct me if I'm wrong, Jason...when I first experienced the boggle on light throttle, I thought it might be the fuel regulator set-up so I went and bought a kit for the Blazer I have...1987, 350 TBI, K5 4x4....except I'm finding out that the motor is from a 1989 Chevy pickup...the chevy pickup spring is taller than the 87 Blazer kit and makes me wonder if there was too much fuel pressure that caused the O-ring to do what it did? I put the original spring and diaphram back in.

I don't think that would be a problem, I am running mine at 14 psi, and the computer is tuned to run with it, because I have a higher hp motor. As far as I know, all tbi run the same fuel pressure, except for some 454 witch ran higher pressure.

Then I'm confused on what caused the small O-ring to do what it did....both injectors and O-rings are about 3 weeks old....and only had about 8 miles on them.... First I drove about 4 miles to fill up with gas...parked it till the next day...then drove it about 2 more miles...that's when it started acting up and died....finally got it started and had a rough time getting it back home (about 2 miles). Scratching my head on this one. :wink1:

probably appened when you put it togther 3 weeks ago. If it wasn't seated right, it might have blown it out after a few miles.

I see your point....I'll drive it around the neighborhood tommorow and see if I can't get the exhaust smoke to clear up....if it's antifreeze or oil burning out the exhaust, does it have an odor other than just a strong exhaust smell?....I really think it's just rich from the injector O-ring being pinched. I thought that if it's oil burning it would have an oil smell to it...not sure about the antifreeze...I'll have to keep an eye on the coolant level also.

antifreeze will smell kinda sweet, and be whitish, oil will smell line burnt oil and have a blue hue to it, and gas will be black smoke.

Well....it's not black smoke....it looks like it might have a very light blue to it...but very light...I'll have to do a compression test....it has moisture coming out the exhaust while it's sitting and idling...it leaves a small puddle...I wonder if that's coolant. In the long run, it might do me good just to replace the motor (block and heads).
