I plan on using my built 472 in my 84 jimmy. I am going to hook it to my granny gear 4 speed, and dana 60s. I think it should be a fun.
As for the buick swap or cad swap they are both easy, they both use the bop bell housing, and eldo pans (rear sump) are easy and cheap to find.
