My power steering pulley just cracked, I noticed it yesterday and pulled it off this morning.

Atleast that large chunk didn't let go before you found it... That really could've done some damage.

The grooves are actually a band thats wrapped around the pulley, where the ends of the band meet is where the crack started. It is a good thing a noticed that, probably would have caused some damage.
