Hesitant take offs

Somewhat cheap way is to remove it and replace with a piece of straight pipe. You should be able to manage to do that without ruining the cat, so if it isn't a problem and you need to run one where you live you can weld or bolt it back in.

Rene
I can do that. And get away with it, too. Small town, no one cares about smog crap and whatnot. Good idea though. I didn't want to waste more money on this rig. ;)

Check and clean the Egr valve. Also ck the vacumn lines. The Egr is active below 1500 rpm after the engine is at temp. Try replacing the IAC as well. Good luck. Brian
EGR valve is also brand new. Replaced that some time back.

MAP reads 33 inches on scanner. So that rules out any vacuum loss.

IAC will be checked today.

what size tires are you running??? soounds like a lot of different things but if your running 35" tires or bigger you might need to go to a proper gear.
Bone stock truck. No lift, no nothing. Just your run-of-the-mill 31's riding 3.73 gears.

Is the TPS sensor working correctly? It needs to have a steady voltage increase throughout it's full sweep. Also, the factory timing setting sucks. I like to run them 6-10 degrees advanced. Any more than that, and premium fuel is needed.

6 to 10 degrees sounds like a TON, but my blazer would ping on 87 if set at zero. I kept it set at about 3.5 (when it didn't need a smog check)

These motors LOVE more timing than what the sticker says, and 6-10* really isn't much. Ditto with the TPI motors in the F-body, they only call for 6*, but they are much more happy with 10-12*.

Again, my timing mark/tab wiht the numbers on it only reads up from zero one way. Is that direction Advanced? Its counter clockwise from zero looking at the front of the motor.

Maybe with 200K on it timing chain could be stretched. somehow I had one go bad over winter on my nova:confused:

On my burb, the first thing i am going to test is going to be the coil. I'll work from there....

I'm not wes, but i changed my coil to an MSD streetfire blaster. Didn't help.

Next up will be to check out the EGR, IAC valve, and TPS i guess. Any other suggestions?

So, anything new Wes?

Rene

No, not really. Haven't messed with it much. Been busy with materials for shop and rounding up necessary paperwork for permit, etc.

I did move the K5 the other day and right after starting it, I had to keep the pedal down slightly to keep feeding it. It just wouldn't idle by itself until it got warmer. Once it reached operating temps, then it would go anywhere.

I'm leaning towards IAC and old gas now. Gonna get some Seafoam and put it back on the scanner again to see what the IAC says.

I know it can't be anything vacuum related because the scanner showed the MAP pulling 33 inches steadily.

So close to getting this to run like a top......
