At about 1/4 throttle I have a hesitation, the truck will stall if I leave it at that spot. Any ideas before I tear into it. It seems like it has been getting worse as it gets colder.
MY guess would be to much fuel rather then not enough.
454, Holley truck avenger unknown size, HEI

Might be your jetting, I have a truck avenger and have the same problem when the temp drops. I bump mine up one jet size in the winter, Holley says to jump up one size for every 35 degree drop in temperature. It helps.

If the problem was too much fuel, you would be getting some serious black smoke out the tailpipe.

Does it do the stall in park, or just going down the road?

If it tries to stall in park, have someone work the gas, while you stand back by the tailpipe. Does the exhaust have a heavy gas smell, or lots of black smoke? Those are the most reliable overrich signs I know of.

Does the Avenger have the blowout prone power valve, or the newer style?

When a Holley power valve blows, the motor gets too much fuel, AND a large hesitation when accelerating.

No black smoke, some blue but thats oil on start up. Tailpipes are black? Its fine in park, its almost like its a dead spot in the carb more then a hesitation like it stops flowing fuel at that spot, if I tap the throttle past it its fine. Doesn't seem to be missing at all which leads me to not think that it it ignition

I would go fuel injection but hate the lack of tunability of a TBI and the other system are still a little rich for my blood.

True but its for my 85 and its a BB and would like to do some upgrades on it in the future, I would like to just be able to laptop tune it when that happens.
