Is there a plug on the block somewhere I can use to drain coolant? I'm trying to avoid spilling coolant everywhere when pulling the motor. :doah:

This is a 1st gen 454

there is a 1/4" pipe plug on each side just above the oil pan.

Thanks guys. I guess I should have said I'm trying the keep from spilling more antifreeze. :surepal:

I put petcocks in there when I can. Then I can slip a hose over them and into the drain pan.

I use the petcock and have a short piece of hose that fits over it when I drain. I don't have to baby sit it and it drains into a 3 gal bucket. Hardly ever any spills, and it stays clean enough to reuse.

Be aware those pipe plugs can be a bear to remove--they often get rusty and were installed at the factory very tight--use a 6 point socket that fits tight on it or chances are good they will just strip ,and the only thing that might work to remove them after that is a pipe wrench,or welding another nut to them........................................................................................I have removed them on many engines, but some refused to budge, even with a long breaker bar,so I let them be,rather than risk block damage by heating around them with a torch...if yours come out,you might want to replace them with brass ones, and use teflon tape on the threads to seal them good, and dont crank them in too tight-being tapered pipe thread, tightening them too much can crack the block easier than you think...
