ive got the military version, the m1009, with 33in tires, 3.08 gears, and the TH400 (no overdrive, and ****ty shift points), and i get around 17 mpg as a daily commuter in northern virginia (lots of stop and go). on the highway i get around 22 mpg.

really i have one im looking at in case the s10 deal im getting falls out he told me he is getting 15 to 19...i need at least 20 to 24...sucks any ideas

I was think about bringing that up to you when I first read your other post. I too was thinking of getting a lil pickup but thought I would look for 2wd diesel pickup. I like the diesel because it does get low 20's in the mpg but it is also 35 cents less then 87 octane.

Not a K5, but my 83 C10 pick-up with 6.2 and 700R4 gets 17-18 in town and in traffic, and 25-26 mpg on the freeway. With the dual tanks my theoretical range is 1000 miles.

A few guys with K5's have reported getting 25 on the higway...

my 86 C10 got around 17 but it had 3.73s and 235s. my K10 had those ungodly high ratios

No, not quite. You have to remember that a big Dodge Cummins makes a K5 chassis look like an S10. Most 4wd Dodges average around 7k right from the factory, not including tool boxes, bigger tires, etc that people add on.

That costs us Dodge guys (Ford PSD, Dmax too, they are all heavy duty pickups) some fuel mileage.

Most hot rodded Dodges get about 14mpg in town, and around 20mpg on the open highway.

My stock ram got 16/21 when I first bought it. After doing standard dieselhead mods, I was at 15/22. Now, after 33x12.50 tires I'm down to 14/20.5 or so. Best I ever got was 23mpg freeway running.
