do yall really use your twins?i know its cool but i used to have a tripple sticked doubler and never used front wheel drive for front digs.by the time i had already backed up and made my turn i relized i could have used it.just looking into it for my doubler but i dont feel its really nessary for the cost you know.opinions?

I'm looking forward to having twin stick capability, it would have come in handy in a lot of previous situations.

For me, the twin stick will be way worth it.

One of the best mods on my truck. Before I shorten it, wheelin with a 8ft bed in wooded trails was not too fun making 4 point turns. But with front wheel drive only, I can make the same turn without ever backing up, just by smashing the gas. Its crazy how well it works. Its probably not as useful out west in the wide open in the rocks, but around here in wooded trails its well worth it.

I don't think I've used FWD yet with mine. I have used RWD low though. Usually all I need to make it around tight trees and whatnot when I don't need 4x4 traction.

I haven't used the full potential of my triple stick setup, but I certainly have used the wee out of the double low range.

Just have to have the shifters. You can get aftermarket stuff, or just do what some have done and use two 205 shifters modded to operate the two rails. The rails just need to ground a particular way for the FWD ability.

To answer your first question: I dont use mine for the FWD as I dont really offroad anymore. I got the twin stick simply to replace the crappy single that was always binding up. Going into 4wd was usually ok, but going back to 2wd or going 4lo often required alot of swearing and muscle.

I don't use it alot, but I use it from time to time to navigate sharp corners on the trail, or keep the rear end from sliding off the snowy trail while I'm backing down.

i know this has been covered but what all do you have to buy to do a twin stick ona 205?shifters and rails right?

How to do it with stock shifters.

I never really used front wheel drive only. But love being able to just stick it into rwd low and driving the trails.

you should come up and help me install mine and then all your questions will be answered :D

Lets bump this to the top since I'm watching it. I just did my rails and got that all installed. Working with someone now making a twin stick for the 86 up 205 th400 set up. round pattern 205. so I'm curious is to how people use there set up for best off road use.

Hell I wrote the article toomany posted! The cost is like free! I have done a few now its easy and can be done in an afternoon. Hell I'll link it up again...

That's an awesome article you did. I haven't done it yet though...waiting to do a rebuild on the 465/205 when I do it. I've been putting it off for awhile now. But the K5 has been retired from DD duty and is soon to be loosing most of it's sheet metal, so I'll probably get to it in a couple weeks.

Here is the way I see the ability to use front drive only:

It is just another tool to add to your vehicles abilities. Those with full bodies will tend to use this tool more than those like myself that are in a full tube buggy. You may find a situation that a front dig will bring the front around faster and help you avoid major body damage or hangup. Other times it's nice to use the front to pull if the rear end is trying to slip off of something as the tires turn.

I probably use front wheel drive only a few times in a weekend of wheeling. Sometimes not at all. I have had great success with it and also little to no success. However it's like having a full set of end wrenches. You may not need that 3/8" most of the time but when you do find the time you do need it you are really glad you have it.

Thats a great way to put it. I find personally that I use RWD low way more often than front wheel only. But... if you are tooling around in RWD you just push the lever and you got 4WD as in shift on the fly. Also its easy to unlock the front detroit by poping it into RWD for cornering.

I use my twin/triple stick quite abit. For normal 2 track trails I'll run rear single low then when stuff gets harder kick it into 4 then for sharp corners kick it into front. Tested out my new shafts last trip, did a 50' burnout in fwd up a rock slab hill. Good time :)

yeh, had mine twinned and then when i put in my doubler i replaced my case with another. i didnt bother the second time. i never used it. idk for me its got a cool factor but never used it

here is what I did today. its a round pattern 205 so the shifters will need to be modified to fit the hole in the trans tunnel.

I love mine! I twin Sticked (with the rails) my LoMax 205, and it is GREAT. If for no other reason than I can easily figure out without guessing what gear I am in. :)
