Are these hi flow cats worth it?

My 87 K5 TBI motor the after market cat is starting to rattle which tell's me it is coming apart (heat shields already missing).

So wondering is it worth to pay the price for one or just gut it and roll on?

What effect's does it have with or without it on a TBI motor.

Yes I understand it is suppose to be there and how it works but when $ is tight for something I can go without for a while.

I'd say for performance, likely going to be very negligible difference in power.

The stench under certain conditions is likely to be very noticeable, if you ever run around with your rear window down, or stand around your vehicle while it idles cold.

I just put the Magnaflow universal one on mine because it was the cheapest one i could find.

The main reason to run a cat is for the smell. If not for you, for the people behind you. The main reason not to is to be cheap, not to improve performance. It's been a long time since cats were "low flow", which is how they got a bad reputation. Since they switched from the beads to the honeycomb, it's just a matter of having appropriate cross section for your engine size. Another option is to run 2 small cats, one on each bank, especially if you're doing the system from scratch. Sometimes the smaller universal ones are crazy cheap.

Mind showing me a picture of your exhaust setup?
