why do people weld there axles to there gears to there diff what are the pros an cons and what are the bad about it

why do people weld axles shaft to there spider gears an is there any pro's an con's about it what does it do to the rigs

That sounds retarded. If you were to weld your axles shafts to the spiders, then you could not service your diff at all without a torch or plasma....

Other than that I see no reason to do it

ok can u destroy other things an wear and tears parts an for example

No, the truck would be fine and run as designed if you welded the axle shafts to the spider gears...but you would never get the shafts out again

i assume he's talking about welded spiders...

it'd be easier to know if he used a little punctuation... question marks and periods are your friend... :wink1:

what actually happen was when i went to gorman my drive shaft broke right after i put it in 4 wheel drive and it broke then when i went to my mechanics house from drivin it front wheel only the u joint off the front right pasenger side of the wheel broke then my mechanic open the pumpkin an realize the 2 inner axles are welded together to the spider gears and he said tat both diff are the same since actin the same way now would this problem cause these kind of carnage i dunno what to do

also found out before it broke i was having trouble steering before it broke

well, it sounds like you have a Lincoln Locker.. the spider gears welded.

and yes, this can definitely add stress to all moving parts in a front differential. they've been known to grenade..

and yes, it will more than likely be difficult to steer, especially with near-stock steering components... certainly not a very street friendly setup...

here's a threads on it...

what is a Lincoln Locker? is it good cuz it doesnt have a ball or anythin in the middle is it why i busted out my axle ujoint an the same with the rear driveshaft?

Welded with a LINCOLN welder. If i were you, id find another axle and swap it. Less bolts to undo. Make sure gears match. As for your driveshaft, get a new one from a driveline shop.

You need to do some reading. I'll post some titles with pics, it'll take about an hour.
Read these books before spending any more time and money. There are more books, but these will start you on the right track. First one is ISBN 0-7603-0798-9, ~$25. Number two is ISBN 0-8376-0157-6, ~$35.
