man the problem you have is that you bought some oneelces nightmare!

I have seen your truck i was with you at gorman, it is a good truck at first glace, but it seems the guy you bought it off of did not do the best job.


When some one welds a diff togeather, they should only weld the spider gears togeatehr, this makes it a very cheap locker(or really a spool) if someone weld the spiders to the axle shaft then the only way to be able to pull it apart is to torch the axle shafts off the carrier.

haveing a locker puts stress on componants that is why you blew your front u joint from driveing too long on pavment in front wheel drive with a welded front.

The reason you blew your rear drive shaft is because you have a high lift and no shims, your pinion angle is horable, you MUST get shims installes at the very least.

the u joint in your rear was binding and that is why it blew.


At the top of the screen is a button that says "Search"


USE IT! read up on stufff you dont know about, like drive line angle, shims, front lockers, how to turn a wrench ect.

I 100% agree with this one. I think your first concern should be fixing ALL your angles. You need shimming for both pinions and look into dropping your t-case a couple inches to help too. Also you might want to think about changing your shafts to CV joints.

And if you're axles are actually welded to the spiders you probably should look into just swaping out the entire diff. At minimum swap out the front. Especially if it's gonna stay your daily driver.

You've definitly got some work ahead of you but thats what happens when you first get a truck from a previous owner, You get to find all the "improvements" they've made. But jus as a few have said just starting reading. This site has GREAT info, then just go hit the book store and grab some good shop manuals.

READ FIRST.

if you read and learn WHY you need CV (not cr) joints, you will find out where you can get them.

If you learn why things brake you can fix the problem, insted of just throwing money at new parts, that will brake again.

You have a nice truck, it could be even better with a few improvements though.

The PO thought it was a good idea to weld up the spiders, but obviously didn't know what he was doing and welded everything to everything inside the differential.

You NEVER weld a daily driver, and welding the front is a risky idea too, and is basically a no no with a D44/10B and large 38" tires.

Read a TON of info until your eyes bleed using the search feature of CK5. After that you could remove both the front and rear complete axles and throw them away. Then from there find the same two axles at a wrecking yard, make sure they have matching gears, change the oil, and don't do anything else besides maybe brakes. Keep the welder away from those spiders.

From there get back to us with any questions you could have and do us all a little favor, work on the grammer and punctuation some before you hit "submit." Thanks.

Consider that every reply to this post, Mine included, has given direction to the original poster. After a while every possible angle was covered in duplicate and the same thing keeps coming up.....

like me i dont have a truck but i read all the posts so i can learn about thins that brake and who the fix also wat each term means so that wen i can afford a truck i dont blow all my money on thigns that will brake or so i dont do something stupid that will screw over the truck im still a newbie but im learning alot from reading theses posts every few days

Don't take it so seriously. I was trying to use a little humor so hopefully the fellow will give his next post a little more effort on the grammer and punctuation. The better his post is written, the better the responses will be regarding exactly what he was asking.

I definantly don't think that everyone should have to use spellcheck on their posts, but honestly...if we can't read their posts how are we supposed to answer the questions?

If Socalsnake is offended in any way by my "in humor" comment he definantly needs to let me know so he can get an apology and a post edit on my part. But...he probably won't be and will understand what the joke meant.
