I know about the headlight mod from here, but I want to just look into the HID's. Anyone know of a DECENT kit for our rigs? Specifically the 4 headlight system on my 88 K5?

The biggest problem with the HID lighting in these older trucks is that the low beam light pattern gets horribly buggered up... You can see great, no doubt, but you blind the crap out of everyone infront of you.

The high beams work fantastic, so you can HID them no problem, but the best I've found for the low beams is high wattage PIAAs or the such

But where/who do you get them from?
Try these guys, not the cheap plastic type conversion lamps like on ebay.
Alex(aka Wrenchead) bought some for his quad lamp system, not sure if he installed yet but did say they looked nice when he got them. If you get a decent lamp with a good light pattern the hid light should disperse properly on the road and not blind anyone. Also it is common practice to even dip the driver side lamp slightly lower than the pass. to help with oncoming traffic and your increase light output.

Also look here for some comparissons of different styles of lamps.

I put them in years ago when it was still high dollar stuff. Got the Hella H4 Conversion.

Is it blinding? Kinda. Its hard to say, it really does put out a poop load of light.

Can't you convert to the Halogen-type capsules from LMC truck and then use generic Halogen-to-HID conversion kits? There was a thread here a couple of months ago about the new LMC light capsules.

yea i have a 82 with a single square headlight and i want to convert it from a sealed beam to one of those where i can just change the bulb and i would convert it to hid also

Yep, thats exactly it. Your converting from SEaled beam over to the replacible bulbs. the drop in conversion HID's will work with that.

I am running this kit as well. I got the brightest legal setup. The low beams are very nice, light up the road perfectly but the highs seem to light up the sky more than the road. I dont really have a use for high beams down here though so its no big deal.

Also LMC sells a kit that is supposed to make your lights much brighter, its a heavy duty relay and new wiring.

when you say HIDs is this what you're talking about? http://www.xenondepot.com/product.php?product_id=146

I really want to try something like this out. Will there be any issues running those on our older trucks? will they work?

I've already got the LMC harness/relays and new style headlights, not the old sealed type. I want to replace them with the Hella housings, mine are some cheap ebay housings

what I've got now
