This may have already been covered, so forgive me if I ask... My search didnt come up with anything other than the Ruffstuff light.

I have a 4 headlight system on my '82 Blazer, I guess I would need new bulb housings to replace the halogen bulbs... Does anyone have a good link?

Then I guess I need some HID bulbs & ballast for all 4 lights... and the bulbs need to match what the new housing will accept.

Thats as far as Ive gotten... I dont know enough about this topic to narrow all my searches in order to make a purchase.

Thanks for any help...

I'll be honest man... Running HIDs in a non projector housing is an accident waiting to happen. You're blinding on coming drivers, and I absolutely HATE when that happens to me. I seriously want to run head first into that a$$hat with the purple headlights that look "soo cool bro".

I know you're looking for brighter, but how about running off the battery directly vs thru the headlamp switch?

4 new reg quality bulbs + headlight relay mod = much better than stock . :thumb:

x2 here for I hate hid when there coming at me at night . :doah:

Try driving at night after your over 50,had cataracts removed and lens implants installed, and see how much you like HID lights coming at you--or from behind in the rear view mirror.....

I've already had to explain to an officer why his blue strobes were blinding me "so bad I had to be stoned or something" in his estimation, compared to a "normal sober person" ,thanks to my eyes now being super sensitive to bright flashes of light ...its hell driving thru construction zones with those flashing hazard signs and a bunch of cop cars with the strobes going at night...

I suppose if my vehicles HAD those super duper bright lights I'd be a big fan of them...but I refuse to have them because I wouldn't want someone blinded by them coming right at my truck (like ME!) from the opposite direction...

I have hid's in my fogs on my DD, I love them, would never run them in my head lights though

Only use the fog lights on back roads

As someone else with old eyes, I'm not as bothered by HIDs as some folks. The LED strobes that all the LEs seem to love are a different story.
I have told several of them that I know that they are going to get them killed one dark night.
One of them told me that he had learned that his reflective vest was worthless when those things are on.
He almost got flattened by a fairly young driver who was completely dazzled and did not see him crossing in front.

Personally, I have many times considered swapping to HIDs, especially in my pickup.
It uses the replaceable bulbs, and they make a kit just for them. Even with the halogens and a well polished lens, I just want more light in the woods.

However, I do worry about the quality of some of the kits that you can get. While I would like more light, some light is better than no light.
I don't want to be out there swapping the original bulbs back in at night, probably in a rainstorm when the HIDs fail to fire.

In your case, you have four headlights vs my two. I would do the mod that lets all four come on with brights, add direct power relays to make what you have brighter, and see how that looks.

If you still don't like it, I would do what I intend to do come hunting season. Buy a couple of LED light bars, probably mount them on my big bumper just under the headlights, and wire them to the high beams through a switch.

I did that on my old pair of 100w driving lights on my old truck. I had a switch on the dash that turned them on, but only if the high beams were on.
With the switch off, they did not come on at all.
With it on, they came on and off with the high beams.

That way, if you are driving with your high beams and driving lights on, lighting up the world, and suddenly meet someone, you hit the dimmer and they can see.
No need to dim the high beams and then turn off the driving lights.

Actually, if I can save up enough coin, I would like 4 bars. Two spots aimed down the left and right edge of the road, plus two floods filling in the center and showing what is standing on the sides.

I can conjure the relay mod no problems, is it REALLY worth the trouble?? Its not a LOT of work, but warrants asking before I put the time and money into it.

was a write up here years ago .

if I recall stock at lights was down to high 9volts low 10 volts and this = min 25% reduction if I recall in brightness.

I've had issues with bright lights since I was young. I like how those HIDs look but hate what they do to peoples eyes,it's like playing chicken passing them. With that in mind I've always wanted to have a set of death lasers, something that would cook the paint off thier hood, in place of fogs just for those inconsiderate azzhoes. My Dad told me he kept a cupfull of marbles for highbeamers back in the day:waytogo:

I'm planning on the direct hookup with relays and quality stocks

What money? Relays are what, six bucks a pop, wire's cheap. Time, well, that does get sucked into old trucks :)

Donno how your particular truck is, but on my 40 year old truck the wiring is more than a bit corroded, especially right up front by the batteries. Which is, inconveniently, right behind the headlights. Couple that with the extra length and smaller gauge and yeah, that's a bunch of potential voltage loss.

It is 100% worth the money. I'm running the stock 91 sealed beams, and it made all the difference in the world. Even on a truck with "newer" wiring that most.

I have no desire for more light on this truck. The relay mod made a huge difference.

If you want to go with just upgrading from the factory sealed beams to H4 type capsules, then these housings will do the trick:

If you go HID, you need the projector style housing like this:

The H4 capsules have the same connector as the stock sealed beams, so you can use the stock wiring, but I would recommend the relay mod to get full power to them.

If you go HID, the balasts will draw the full power from the battery, so the relay mod is not needed. You would just need to get a HID kit compatable with the H4 high / low capsule

These housings are both for the "small square" type headlights 6.5" x4", which should be the correct size for your 4 light setup on the '82.

For my old eyes HIDS are rather nice. I did remove the ones i had on my 2004.5 dodge and its an absolute night and day difference. Makes one think he/she was driving with candles for headlights.

I installed the LMC headlights on my 90 Jimmy and i am not impressed with the quality of the bulbs that were included. I have not bought silverstars as of yet as i want to explore the HID route due to my job that has me driving in the boonies in the middle of the night and i rather need to see bambie.

LED off road lights are another modern marvel....:waytogo:
I put 2 Rigid D2's on the front of my jimmy and they made my 3 8" Baja Design LaPaz lights look like candles....:eek1:
