I'm looking at a 95 k1500 with 200k on it. It's a pretty clean truck, interior is almost spotless, cab corners are getting soft, but the box is still perfect. All in all a very clean truck for around here.

Only thing I'm not really sure of is the 6.5. Are these like a 6.2 where they go forever? And didn't some have issues with blocks cracking? Would this have a 4l60E or 4L80E? I haven't looked too close, just debating if it's worth a closer look. They're asking $4500.

They were asking $6000. Ill see if I can dig up a link.

not sure but the few I have seen in 2wd ran 700/4l60 tranny.

never a huge fan of the 6.5 my self . not much more power than 6.2 and had more problems from stuff I have read . also if electronic injection pump = more $$$ for repairs.

I've read a little on other forums, seems like half say they're great, and the other half say that they're pieces of poo. The more I think about it the more I feel like passing on it.

I have a 94 sub with a 6.5. I get 16-17mpg. It has 243000 on the odometer. Once you relocate the pump mounted driver (pmd) and get rid of the crap gm oil line they are good engine. They make about 180hp and 360ft-lds or torque. I would call it a diesel version of the 6.0 gasser form GM.

At 6k I'd probably pass...but if you can get lower might be a deal.
In a half ton I'm sure it's fine, but in the larger trucks there were also problems with cracked blocks, number 7 and 8 pistons, likely from overheating as the root cause (heavy pulling and a mediocre cooling system = kaboom).

Any starting issues? Blow-by acceptable? Those that think they're boat anchors at best expect Cummins power/performance. If you understand they're not that kinda motor, treated right they will run for a LONG time.

I had a 94 CC 4wd dually that I hauled livestock with. I traded it in with 230k and it still ran great. It was a 5 speed though. Actually had an issue with a wrong size seal in the transmission when they first delivered it but after that I had virtually no other issues. I liked my 6.5 but liked my Duramaxes a lot better because of the huge power difference.
