So i was driving to work this morning and my oil pressure was reading at like 60 or 70. Then when i was drining home from work the pressure went all the way up to 80. Then i shifted into neutral and the needle dropped back to 40. So my question is, what's making my oil pressure so high?

Is it a stock oil pump? Stock relief spring? Did it just start doing this? If not, what is normally your highest oil pressure?

it makes sense that it goes down when you put it in neutral (less rpms=less pressure) answer the above questions and well help figure it out for you.:D

as far as i know its the stock oil pump. I haven't noticed it doing this before so i tihnk its has just started doing this.

that definetly is high for a stock pump. if it had ever been replaced with a high volume pump its not unheard oif to reach 80 psi. is it that its never doen it or youve just never noticed it? is it the stock gauge? if so turn the key to the run postion with the truck off, is the gauge at zero?

its the stock gauge. yeah it could have done it before and i haven't noticed but i have only had it running for like a week.

well do what i said and check the gauge. if it doesnt zero then the gauige itself is off. this is very possible, just ask me how i know:rolleyes:

with th truck off turn the key to the run position, if its at zero than it should be ok

i don't have any basis to back my opinion, but i would think that your oil pressure is not too high for a 6.2. they've got alot of oil. maybe 80 is on the higher end of things, but i doubt it's bad. it makes sense that it would drop, however dropping by 40psi seems like a lot. i guess that doesn't help any.
