Normally my oil pressure was about 30 psi or so @ freeway speed but lately i've been getting a steady high oil pressure reading of about almost 50 to 60(the mark between the 30 and 60 on the gauge) the last few weeks and was curious if that is a sign of a problem or possibly a bad gauge ??...it's an 85 with a 94 tbi 350...so the gauge is the 85 gauge and sometimes it reads nothing till i tap on the gauge face a few times...at idle it seems normal tho...i changed the oil and the level is good....and seems to be running great.....any help is greatly appreciated.....thanks

its the stock 85 gauge and i run 10/30 semi synthetic....ive had the engine in for a few years but the pressure just starting showing higher the last couple weeks

go buy a cheap aftermarket gauge. just to rule out the gauge. its just cheap securtity

You need to pull the engin and install one with low oil pressure to test the guage wiring and sending unit.Seems like a lot of work but its fun.:D

My BBC runs 30psi@idle, around 55-60 off idle w/10-40 or 20-50. The relief spring is a bit stronger than stock. Oil pressure up to 60 is just fine on the street. 100lbs or greater can blow filters on occasion

if your tapping on the gauge to get it to move/work, it's your prob... verify with a mechanical gauge..

After my new motor swap, mine pegs out at 60psi when on the gas. Dont know if this is normal or not.

Back when i had the original motor in the Burb, the oil pressure sending unit had started leaking at one point, it had always read higher than i was used to, 50-55 range, i replaced it with a new one and the gauge read a different reading, slightly lower, but still within tolerable range.

Don't rule out those sending units.

My 383 with the Melling 10555 high pressure/volume pump, will peg my 100 psi guage with cold oil.....Broke 3 pump drive shafts before I upgraded to an ARP one.

Mine idles at 45-55 and runs up to 75 sometimes.

But i did just spin a bearing (i think) Could be a broken crank. =/
Either way my oil pressure is still good. =]

Have you changed the oil filter yet? An oil filter which is becoming clogged will cause the oil pressure to go up and the more plugged the filter gets eventually the filter will explode. I have no idea what brand of oil filter you use but THE BEST filter you can buy is a Wix brand.
