HIgh rise manifolds are taller between the carb mounting flange & the runner bases. They are usually single pplane. This gives you shorter straight up & down runners which allows the fuel to flow from carb to head faster. These type intakes are generally for engines w/ higher rpm bands than a stock engine. They also tend to kill low end power.
Some dual plane intakes are taller than stock & may be called a "high-rise". These intakes tend to work well on moderatly built engines. Kinda the best of both worlds.
