High torque starter on a '89 K5?

BTW, I have both style starters sitting on a shelf... And I can fit them in a large flat rate box.

Send me a PM with prices. I'm interested and have the urge to just replace the starter...but not the cash to pay $160+ right now.

Random thought, but if I got a gear reduction starter it'd be the same brace a 90's body style 6.5L truck used, right? If so I'll see if I can source one locally.

Okay, I'm stumped. Guy at NAPA wants to know if the starter bolts are parallel or offset? Something to do with the torque converter cover and how they line up?
This sound right to anybody?

I'm thinking they were all offset? Even my '83 motor has offset bolts. With the torque needed to turn over the diesel the bolts need to be as far apart as possible to keep them from shearing off.

$25 plus $15 shipping for a starter. I can even have them bench tested at the parts store before shipping. I already have several pulled off so it won't take me long to pack one to ship. But it may be a few days before it gets mailed since I'm not at home everyday right now.

Sounds like a plan. Take your time. I won't get paid until next week anyways. Let me know when you have the time to hassle with it and I'll get the $$$ out to you.

Since the gear reduction starter is a bolt on I think I'll go that route and try and find a bracket. It is the same bracket a newer 6.5L truck would use, correct?

Cool, the local GMC dealership can get them for $17 and change plus tax.

Bought the offset starter shims today. Should hit that this weekend and see how it goes.
