High Torque Starter

Kinda shopping for a High Torque starter for my 454.

Anyone have an idea on wich one is better or whatever?
There seams to be a few different one out there..
So anyone use one..wich one? how you like it?

i gotta hi-torque mini starter from summit for like 150 for my 350 after i was unhappy with the one I got off ebay. I am extremely satisfied with the summit one.

So what is the difference with the type:

Staggard
or
In-Line
???

I think the difference in type has to do with how that manufacturer set up the gear reduction for the starter. I also have the one from summit. it works great and was very reasonably price compared to other hi torques.

bolt pattern..

"Staggered" and "In Line" refers to the bolt patterns..

"Staggered" is for the 168 tooth flexplate,the "In Line" bolt pattern only fits the 153 tooth flex plates...

staggered and inline refers to the bolt pattern that holds the starter to the block. Inline run straight across (frame to frame), and staggered run diagonally across the truck. Big Blocks are drilled & tapped for both bolt patterns (atleast all the bbc's Ive seen), heck, my powermaster mini-starter is setup for both bolt patters, so I have 3 bolts in it.

I have a summit and the only problem I had was that I had to replace the inner commutator(?) part because it froze up with corrosion. This may be from lack of use because my truck sat for 4 months and lots of stuff seemed go wrong on the start-up (like the alternator also crapped out , just the bearings, still made power and lots of noise), but I digress. I am satisfied with it's performance and the price is right.

I have a Powermaster 9200 for my 350. Easy starts and sounds very nice on start up. I'll never go back to a stock starter again.

From northern auto parts you can get the hitachi ones. I personally don't have one but several freinds do. They do what there job is and well enough you forget about them. IMO exactly what a starter should do

seems like people tend to dig the Summit one... whats the part # on that beast?
