So how much towing capacity do you guys think I lost by cutting the 3rd hole off my hitch?

I had to n modify it to run the hitch with the shackle flip.

Before and after:

Also curious. I had to do the same thing. Figured it would be OK with light towing or getting people unstuck.

Would I be right in assuming it probably knocked the 5000 lb rating down to 3000 lb?

6 holes minus 2 holes equals 4 holes. 4 of 6 is 2/3. So you lost 1/3.

Never was good at word math problems.

I'm sure this won't work out if you did rear stuctural calcs.

I've seen receiver hitches that only have two holes on each side...also seen many home brewed abortions cobbed together out of angle iron and bird turd welded together that hauled many a trailer to various places..not saying it right, but I'd say your hitch will be OK for a bit less than its original rating..
