Saw one of these for sale a while back, and made me think if one of these would even be a good idea. If you had to pick up a motor on say gravel or mud, ya i can see it being more useful than a cherry picker, but with a four foot boom that would be alot of stress on either the bumper or the frame with standard hitch mounting. I know i have a drop hitch mounted to my steel bumper, and just didnt know how stupid of an idea or creation this is. I dont think i saved any pictures, it was on craigslist. brotherhoods opinion?

With the little supports i dont see it being as bad, but without them i can see only bad things coming from it.

It seams like as long as your careful and on flat ground it would work nicely and you would be able to take it off quickly and easily too which is nice. cant see it really overloading the hitch or mounts after all some people do tow heavy travel trailers like myself on factory hitches. lets see what others think

The one i saw was without the ground brace, so i think that would cause alot of stress on the bumper if it had any weak points at all, and even with a frame mounted receiver it would put stress on the bolts. I dont know how much stress they would take before they break, but im sure the bumper would bend long before the frames did.

I would use HD pneumatic tires or some type of tire (lawn mower??) so that you could move the truck with the engine still on the hoist...

I'd say shorten the hitch mount so it's right at the bumper and just remove the tailgate to get rid of all that leverage. The lift arm should raise straight up enough to make the swing into the bed. Just my .02.:wink1:

I actually had a cherry picker like this mounted in the bed of my s10 and now I have one mounted in my stepside. I have it mounted on the driverside left corner towards the end. its bolted to the frame. I have picked up motors with it and also unloaded my 1 tons from a trailer. It does put alot of pressure at the end of the frame where its bolted to, so I would assume mounted where it is in the pic would even be more stress. Especially if you are trying to swing it into the back of your truck.

any pics of your setup scrappy? ive seen them mounted off flatbeds before, and one in the back corner of a bed,

i just chained my picker to my truck when i need extra pulling power. that way it doesn’t put any vertical force on the truck and i can use it without the truck if i want.
