Pulled the oriiginal head today. As I suspected, #6 exhaust valve was down in the seat bout 1/8th of an inch. Took me 8 hours, counting cleaning and painting parts. The old girl runs beautiful now!!!! Here's some pics, so you younguns can see what the base motor for a K5 was in 1970.:D :D

those motors just aren't so pretty.

glad to hear you got it running again though hehe.

Sorry, but I don't understand. Did you break a valve spring or lose a valve stem retainer? How did you fix it?

Nothing purdier then ol' chevy orange!!! How much torque did those six's make?

Did that engine come with the HEI dizzy.?

I put a later year head on, with hardened seats and valves. I can't rremember the torque specs, but with 3.73 gears, it will pull uphill at an idle, with the 3 speed. I put the HEI distributor in it, and put the points setup on a shelf, in case I ever want to do a total resto.
