Hmm, check out this $50 dollar paint job.

That looks pretty darn good for rolled on paint.

I used Rustoleum in a cheap house sprayer gun to paint my CJ-7 in high school and it looked great even after 5 years when I sold it.
I also painted a camper shell and it came out well also.

I can't imagine rolling on a paint job on a vehicle that has a lot of curves and crevices though.

I do paint repair on cars for a living. I can not believe what can be done with a little patience.

I have seen rolled on Rustoleum paint jobs on off road cars. They looked good, but that guy spent some serious time preparing that car. 90% of any good looking paint job is prep.

Strip, Chassis Saver, PPG Shopline primer, Rustoleum flat black...

It's a technique we've been using on boats for decades.... 15%, 20% of all refinishwork on boats is roll/tip... heck, I've rolled and tipped a 36' hull before...

it's the labor that kills ya... your sanding and coating a ton in the end to get a decent job... I've done jobs where you couldn't tell if it was sprayed or not, it also took 8 x's the labor of a sprayed job...

an overall job? buy a $30 gun, beg/borrow or steal a compressor and squirt the sucker out in the driveway imo.... eezy peezy......

"I can say, with confidence, the stripe is worth at least 5-7 rwhp."

:haha::haha::haha:

Looks good though...

200 in materials for the decent stuff..50 dollar harber frieght gun...

and not a second of buffing when I was done, I have used this cheap gun a few times and love the results. I did purchase a much higher end gun not to long ago though.

I have enough materials left to paint the another car as well from the same primer and paint. I love reading the low buck methods, but having the tools to do more jobs in the future is nice.

there is plenty of other areas you can cheap out on..smething I have to look at is not an option for me!

i think i paid about 10 bucks for this paint job. this was that cheep 89cent a can spray paint you used to be able to get from home depot. took about 10 cans.

It all depends on what you want. I removed all the chrome strips on my '76 and was quoted $2300 to fill in the holes and a couple of dings and to paint it. It's a good price for a good paint job, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money and then spend every moment I'm wheeling worrying about the paint. I only go to the mall under duress and not in the K5.

I painted this with a roller and brush with rustoleum paint from home depot

It held up great for several years. Only two coats. Looked good from far away but when you got close it looked like it had bad orange peel. I didn't wetsand or polish it. But I can tell ya water would bead right off!

This is my 17 year old son's truck... Paid $50 for it.
When we were buffing we broke thru in a few places, so we recoated and have not had time to sand and buff again yet.
Budget is the big deal here... we both put in several weekends, but the truck was driven nearly every day!

My guesswould be that we have $70 in paint and materials.
My gues is that he is still under $1000(excluding the wheels) for the whole project!
Interior is next!

What do you think?

KeyBlazer... That looks great.

Reminds me of when a friend painted his '65 Mustang using red $.59 spray paint from K-Mart. He wet-sanded the Hell out of it. It looked unbelievable. His reason for doing it was to gloss it up and get the defects to be more obvious so he could get it totally smooth before applying the actual paint.

Still... in his case, as in yours, a little hard work has yielded great results.

Thanks!
We are pretty happy with it!

I sprayed my 77 when I built it 2 coats red, and 2 coats of thick rustoluem white. Looked real good when I was driving.

I never wet sanded any of it...Went in the mud once before I took it apart and sold it...Damn I spent a long time trying to wash mud out of unsealed paint...haha

That looks sweet for 70$$. I wanna paint mine grey! Did yall roll or spray it??

This is a sharp looking rig for sure. Nice job. I think I will be doing similar painting methods.
