I know your supposed to keep the lead straight but our one at work I can sling that baby however I want and not worry about it.

I have the gauge wheels set correctly ive even tryed really cranking them down.

It seems as though as soon as the wire gets hot it get stuck in the tip. Dad just went and bought some tips at hardware hank. They arent Miller/Hobart tips. Could that be the problem?

Im running .035 wire I think and .035 tips. Should I step up to .040 tips?

Dad is really startin to piss me off. We went halfises on this wire welder. He goes out and buy cheap wire and cheap tips. That and the cover around the tip is already really screwed up:mad: . And I know I didnt do it cuz Ive barely used it.

Melting to the tip is the result of too slow a feed speed at too high an power setting. You either need more wire speed, or back off the heat. Purchase Anti-Spatter spray and spray the gas cup and tip every time you start a project. Helps keep things lasting longer and less cleaning while using.

Pretty certain the feed rollers in hobarts are plastic. One of the reasons I didn't purchase one.

How do you set wire speed? My rule of them is when I can pinch it between my thumb and forefinger and stop the feed but feel pressure from the machine.

The ones in my are metal but the mounts holding them in place are plastic.

our 175 at work I just about always run 2 for heat and 40 for wire feed. That is what Im trying to run on my 180. Although we have .030 wire at work and i have .035 in my welder. Maybe our welder at work is just that damn wore out.

To set the feed I ran some beads and got to to wear I thought I had it set well.

Check the liner. My Hobart had a minor kink in the liner just beyond the machine. Called Miller, sent me a replacement for free, works great. They are only $20.00 if you buy one.

liner as in the inside of the wire feed cord for the gun. I didnt know that is removeable.

Cool thanks, I just noticed the gauge wheel has two different deals to... I better check to make sure mine is right.

And no the manual is still in the plastic unopened...
