I found a Hobart 175 locally forsale for $450. Comes with 3 spools of wire and a cart for $450. Is this a good deal? Supposedly never been used.

that's about a 650, $700 welder.. any 220 machine for under 500 that is clean, I would say is a smokin deal..

Is the 175 a 220 machine? I'm not sure. I'd also consider holding out for the multi voltage option that may already be available. We've been testing one and it's a cool idea for a smaller machine. Basically it can be plugged into 110 or 220 so it's just that much more versatile. I don't know that it's a huge deal for bigger machines but the smaller stuff that can be carried could use that option a lot.
We have about a dozen welders here and the hobarts get a lot of use even when the guys can choose among some other really nice machines.

the 175 is 220.. the 135 is 110.. the 187 is the replacement to the 175...

Well, dude already sold it, so it must have been a good deal. Thanks guys! :waytogo:

There is one local to me for $400 with a brand new gun and ground cable as well as a cart. I am trying to trade him a tv for it :D

We were in TSC the other day and I saw they have the Handler 187 marked down to like $549. How does this compare to the Lincoln Pro Mig 180 for $669 at Lowes? I know the Lincoln name better as I grew up using a AC225 stick machine (transformer :D ) and it's near 30 years old and still works fine.

i almost bought a 187... thats a good deal...

i bought the lincoln pro mig 180 and love it but hobart lincoln and miller are all great machines

Going to pick-up a used Handler 187 today. Comes with argon tank, couple spools of wire, helmet, cart and a few other various items for $600. Dude who owns it is pretty good about taking care of his toys. He's moving though and didn't want to transport it, so he's putting stuff up for sale he doesn't want to move.

He's got a 15spd craftsman drill press too, but I just made an offer on a house yesterday so it'll probably have to wait a few weeks till I see what's going on with the house! Thanks for the help guys, I'll post pics when I get it home and setup. Gotta make an extension cord to get my 220V upstairs at Granny's house so I can play with it some.

Well this thread kinda died! Well, I FINALLY used this thing last weekend. It took me half an hour to get the junk cleaned off it and a path opened to the front of the garage where the outlet for it is.

I pulled the manual out and gave it a once over then fired it up and welded the sleeve hitch to the back of my lawn tractor. I finally got some of my metal up here, so I'm hoping to start replacing the K5's rocker panels with box in the near future.

It's funny how much more often I use my welder for things like that than fun automotive projects.
