I posted about my K5 w/ 570cfm Street avenger. It was having a problem off the line. I would push the gas easily and then it would fall on its face and almost stall, in some cases it would stall. This made for dangerous driving, esp. pulling out in traffic.

I had replaced the power valve but that didnt help anything. I decided to "re-tune" my truck and carb. I set my timing from 4* (factory) up to 7* and then adjusted the carb a/f mix per my vacuum gauge and got around 18hg on the gauge. Took truck for drive and it still fell on its face. hmm.

so, I decided to adjust the lil pump lever on the front part of the carb. There is a sping loaded screw. I adjusted the nut DOWN a full couple turns. This actually made the problem worse. hmm. So, I moved the nut UP about 2 turns past stock and this made a world of difference. There is almost no stalling or hesitation now.

Thought id share. :D

Yep, if its the one I think, that is the adjustment for the accelerator pump. I think you adjusted it for a longer throw, which puts in more gas when you accelerate.

I think you may have just made my truck a helluva alot more driveable, I'm gonna play with this when it gets off the train and into its new home...

I'm going to try that too, seems to hesitate when it's cold. Damn carbs are so finicky. I wish they offered a class at a University or something just for carbs.

ya my big problem has been getting it going when its cold too, you can see my thread in the garage section called cold weather reliability for some other tips on making the blazer more driveable when its cold out. I think my main problem is I've just got to much motor right now to go reliably with a carb, which means swapping out to another motor (kinda gay seeing as how 366hp and 400lbft of tq is awesome in our rides) or going fuel injected ($$$$). we'll see what happens as I'd definitely like to get more use out of the blazer.

Well report back for those that give this tip a shot.

There must be something to it cuz they put this adjustment in easy reach, most manufactors dont make anything easy usually. lol

Yea and I'm trying to stay away from electronics for when SHTF :waytogo:

Yep, adjusting the accelerator lever will make a huge difference in a stumble. Most people don't know how to make the adjustment properly though and few books tell you how to do it properly either. I used to be the Holley god back in my race car days and anyone that had a Holley and was having problems ended up at my house for me to fix it.

The proper method of adjustment is to hold the throttle at WOT, depress the accelerator pump lever as far as it will go and then make sure you have .015" clearance between the pump lever and the adjusting bolt.

Ok...

1) I think I need your number because I have a Holley and am clueless on Carbs (I'm a FI baby).
2) The Accel pump is the little spring in front of the throttle linkage right? Often a red spring with a nut on the top of it?

Looks like I might need to go get me some feeler gauges :D
