hey guys I just recently bought a pro-jection 4 analog system because my carb setup wasn't working very well. At the same time I put the fi on I put an edelbrock performer intake on. when I went to start it up. it turns over and fires but then as soon as the starter motor disengages it shuts off. The troubleshooting guide said it could be the ecu not getting enough power so I wired in a relay and it still does the same thing. it also said it could be my tach signal. but the tach that I put in works when it fires so I assume it is getting a tach signal. So I am at a loss and I am starting to get really frustrated. Has anyone else ran into this problem? What could the issues be? any help will be greatly appreciated. oh and its on a sbc 355 it has a cam but I don't know specs. headers and the new intake. let me know what you guys think.

have you got the hot wire in a key hot & crank position. i saw a guy 1 time chase down this for a day. wire was pluged in to crank hot only.

I think so. I have it running into the wire that was wired into my distributor. I tested it with the key in an on position with a test light but I guess I could test it again just to make sure.

you should have the computer power on its own cirkit with a fuse and make sure its wired like i said.

x2. Depending on your ignition age and setup, the wire to the distributor only gets a full 12v when the starter is cranking.

If this is your '84, find the right accessory terminal on the fuse panel, and use a wrecking yard factory connector or spade connector (not my choice, but many use with success) to power it, with an inline fuse of the correct amp rating.

Got her running, just doesn't like to run until shes warmed up. I don't think there ever was a problem other than the idle knob wasn't turned properly. I guess I can live with having to wait until it is up to full operating temp before driving. not my dd anyway. thanks a lot for your help guys.

I thought the whole point of the setup was good running under all conditions? If you can get it running, you might try datalogging it to see what's wrong. You'll be able to see if all the sensor inputs are working.
