I found a holley projection 2barrel setup for damn cheap, minus fuel pump. My question is, Are there any concerns with this kit?

Ive been doin some searching, but i want to know if its a good swap and also if there are any possible problems with it.

Thanks!

The controller is pretty weak on the legacy 2B TBI systems. If it's a modern controller than it should be fine. For a 305 or mild 350 the analog system might be adequate.

IME the projection systems are total junk.

Seriously, my Q-jet runs better (offroad even) than any of the projection systems I have seen.

nothing runs worse than my old quadrajet. I slapped a buddies edelbrok 1405 on it for the time being. But FI is a must for me. My 350 has a RV cam and everything else is stock. NOthing outrageous.

What fuel pump would be a good one to run with this setup?

If your Q-jet didn't run well it was out of adjustment or in poor condition.

I can appreciate that you want to go to fuel injection. I'm telling you that you will regret putting projection on your truck.

From experience with guys I wheel with it always runs bad and dies all the time (not due to angles). I've never heard anyone say they were happy that they bought Holley's projection.

There's a reason Holley stopped making them, and I think they were only ~$300-400 new with the pump.

The qjet i ran was a brand new referb. Tuned by multiple shops and good friends who ran them on race engines. Never could get it to run well. either not enough fuel or dumping fuel, and often switched back and forth at random. But that peice of junk is gone now.

Reason i looked into this as being an option is im leary of buying a TBI setup out of the junk yards, and when i find someone selling a setup online, it ends up getting sold to someone else or they fall through. In other words, what would your advise be on gathering the TBI parts?

How much do you drive it on the street? If its not much you may want to look into propane.

If you want to stick with gas than the stock GM TBI is a very good setup. You can watch ebay, the junkyards and post up in the wanted section here. You should be able to find a complete setup for a few hundred bucks.

If you want to spend $$ there are lots of aftermarket companies that make good fuel injection setups.

Another option is Craigslist. Depending on how in-depth you want to go, you could likely buy a running truck in the $700 range, and strip it of the parts at your leisure.

Advantage there is you know the thing works, and you've got all the pieces needed.

i found that projection system on craigslist. Propane is an awesome idea and ive looked into it many times. But i drive it enough that i would like to stay gas for availability reasons.

I guess ill start searchin fleabay and whatnot.

projection

I finally have my projection tuned. Took me a long time before I realized my vacumm advance wasnt working.:doah: So far I like it, I just tap my key to start it and can walk away from the truck and it stays runnin. No more nonsense of carberated chokes.
Parts are available through summit all day long.
I get to test it offroad on the 29th:D

I have 4 freinds running pro jection. It takes some tinkering to get tuned really well (hmmmm kind of like a holley carb!!!) Don't buy a used kit, 2 guys did that and after replacing a couple of sensors here and there and this and that the guys that have the used kits ended up spending almost as much or more than a brand new kit.

That said they run like tops. No problems at all. The old pump that came with them was crap but the newer pumps are better. Not being in a baffled tank you need at least 3 or 4 gallons left in the tank to wheel them. Beyond that and the pickup gets uncovered at bad angles

Best advice I could give is follow the instructions. Don't go trying to tune one parameter before the other. Be ready to spend about a week and a couple tanks of gas to get it running really well.
