Well got my sniper installed on the weekend so far impressed with how much nicer my truck runs compared to the 800 holley double pumper i had on it. Installation of the unit and hooking up the wires needed to make it run is simple, answer about 4 questions on the hand held unit/display, cycle the key and it fired up and idled. let it warm up and set the idle screw so that the IAC is between 2 and 10% and took it for a drive. The throttle response is great, can tell you if i am not careful i will be ordering up some new 38s sooner than i want because they will be burnt off. cant really say how the mid-range is didnt do much testing in that area, after about 5 miles when it showed initial learning down to about 10% left i did do some full throttle runs and it is definately alot stronger on the top end the 454 hasnt seen so many 5k+ shifts.
Over all install of the unit took me about hour and a half with trying to run the wires nicely, do have several more hours in it putting a new sending unit in the tank so i could put the delco EP381 in the tank and run a return line to the back plus taking one side exhaust out to weld in a bung for the new O2 sensor.
i have been running an AEM wideband on the left side exhaust and been wanting to put another one on the right side so now i have that and they are reading pretty much dead on each other.
Do have some more wiring yet to go as the sniper will control dual electrics at 2 seperate tempature engages which is also tuneable via the handheld that i mounted on the dash which was good for me since i removed the derale fan control sensor so that i didnt have to drill and tap a new hole in the intake.
So far only about 12 miles on it if i have any issues or more good news on this product i will post them here, So far very happy with my purchase.

was leaning towards the FI Tech because its been around a little longer so its got some history but then one of my performance suppliers put the sniper on sale for 150 less then the FI Tech plus then their regional sales rep gave me another 44 bucks off their sale price so the decision was made leaves a little more to put towards a locker so that i will finally be ready for Blazer Bash and Dunefest :thumb:

Really? Im starting to window shop for efi and i thought the holley was twice as much as the fi.
Im just looking at the cheapest one with no ignition control.

for me they were the same dollar because that was 1 thing that did help steer me towards the holley was FI Tech has there up to 400hp one and then the 600hp one
and being that i estimated about 390hp with a carb and figuring the conversion would up that i had to go to the bigger FI Tech the 400hp is definatly a couple hundred cheaper

The Sniper was Holley's response to Fi-tech undercutting the price on the TBI market.

As @warrior454 says, the fi-tech 400hp version is the cheapest at around $800 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fif-30003

small update on the sniper was having an issue with the coolant sensor reading 10 to 15 degrees less then the engine was running causing it to not go into a closed loop status even after 10 miles of steady driving and i had even lowered the setting on the hand held to 150 for closed loop. Did a little searching and it seems this is a VERY common issue, so put in a delco 213-928 and took it for a drive and was in closed loop within about 2 miles, what a difference that made, was having troubles keeping it at 55mph it just kept wanted to keep climbing

Reading your posts about the Sniper feels almost like deja vu for my reasons to choose it. I don't have my truck running yet, but hopefully soon.

Interesting thing is, I think I might have one of those AC Delco coolant sensors if it's the same one the old TBI used. Was going to install a new one until I decided on the Sniper instead of converting the TBI to run on the 454.

You sure about that? Not being a jerk, just surprised me that they would have used something not very standard.

Looking 213-928 up on Summit, they show it for an R20, and going back as far as 1980 on Chev applications. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ado-213-928/applications/make/chevrolet

If it's the same as the TBI/TPI sender (and honestly most GM temp sensors are probably the same in operation up until about 1996) and you run stock gauges, you can replace both the CTS and gauge sender with a single three wire Delco piece. It's 10096181 , https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-10096181

i looked it up under a 96 chevy its the computer sensor for alot of years, as a side note i am an AC Delco authorized dealer here in canada so i have the GM cataloging so i tend to look everything up there, i know on holley's forums most were suggesting standard ignition # tx3 and delco

I didn't go to AC's website and verify, is 213-928 the TBI one then, or is it for something else?

Predates TBI if 1980 is first application, I think. Pretty sure crossfire was later, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't used on the CCC systems.

:dunno: Maybe I ordered the wrong part for the TBI. I just looked up the part number of the sensor I ordered. It was $10 more than the 213-928.

Just looked, I ordered a 213-4396. Looking on RockAuto maybe that's the "professional" version of the regular sensor?

all i know is that sensor i used is the ecm coolant sensor used on GMs for years, back in the early 90s when i was working at the dealership we were always replacing that sensor for cold start issues telling the computer that it was a different temp then what it actually was

Probably is, didn't even know they made a "professional" version of the sensors. One would hope all of them work like they should lol.

Can't find much real info on the difference. I hope the "professional" is better since it was $10 more. :doah:

yes wouldnt hurt carrying an extra but watching the readings it just runs a little richer in open loop for the driving i did before fixing that sensor only issue would be the fans not coming on as early, which one of these days i have to get hooked up to it most my driving is done in the country while going back and forth to work so temperature is not an issue
