I have finally tacked why my steering wheel has odd play and slop in it. If you dont remember I went on for a week or to trying to figure this out a few months ago. I went through everything, replaced Ball-joints, re-tightened re-tightened tie-rod ends, re-tightened the steering box, remounted my pitman arm, put in an xj steering shaft, EVERYTHING! The steering got a tiny bit better but still wasnt up to my par.

Here is the front end killer, I finally found the mother. The creator of clunks and slop. I found it today when installing 2.5* shims. (picture 1)

Picture two and three are my front pinion angle with 2.5* shims installed. I wanted everyones opinion on whether I should step up to a 3, 3.5 , or 4* shim or not.

When setting up your front end, you dont go off the pinion angle. You need to use a angle finder and set your caster. you want a few degrees of positive caster, not sure of the exact number though. This creates better return to center, better stability, and better turning.

Were you trying to buy a new center pin at Advance? How'd that go?:haha: I've always made mine with grade 8 bolts and some time at the grinder. How did it bend?

Thats the only place I go really. Just depends on the counter person you get. There are a couple of guys at the one by my work that make me want to scream! The manager got moved to a different store and he was the only one worth a poop! I just thought poking a little fun at the guy in the pic would be funny...

Lol that would be my boss. Hes a pretty knowledgable guy but leafs are a cryptic thing as far as hes concerned. Hes a honda guy and knows a **** about them and how to actually build them, not put body kits on and fart cans.

As far as the whole caster/pinion angle thing The pinion shot was just a reference thing, kinda like hey my pinion is here is this close to what the angles are stock?

Any yes the other center pin is being replaced with a grade 8 bolt, that what I got from work to do the bent one on the fly. I dont need to worry about grinding the head since I use zero rates, the bolt works just fine.
