Yah I know I posted it elsewhere. But I plan on adding things here and there and think it'd be cool to keep a thread on it. SO GET OVER IT!!!:D

Me and the boys built a press this weekend. My buddy works at DAKE press in grand haven MI, he got the side channel all predrilled out of the scrap bin because the holes were drilled a few thou off lol. Then we scrounged some angle and channel, got a military issue 10 ton porta power for welding a floor in a jeep of a friends, and a Custom Dake press head my buddy made lol. I bought a 5lb box of rod for $13 and thats all we have into it :thumb::woot:. I welded on this sob for a long time haha, you wouldnt think of how many welds are on one of these

The sides are 5" wide channel, the head and table I think is 3.5" or 4" channel... Legs are 3" Angle, The table pins are from DAKE and legit:waytogo:. Modeled after a DAKE 25 ton press from which the channel is from. http://dakecorp.com/products-detail.asp?page=Hand-Operated

I want to rig up a home brew press brake like the swag one as well. '

Also the head unit is held on by a piece of 1/4" plate welded to the head channel, also with four 1/4" gussets on all sides of it with 2 holes drilled in the plate with bolts holding the head unit in, making it easy to remove.

We tried it and it works nice, cant wait to press some stuff:thumb::woot:

Adam, don't put money shot and your face in the same pic ever again....

Oh, nice job...be sure your not infringing on any Dake patents.

Nah we arent selling it and he didnt steal anything, they let him take the channel and stuff :waytogo:

Oh and screw you dave!:thumb: :haha:

That's pretty cool man. I wish I would/could have done something like that instead of just buying a harbor freight one.

That's Damn Damn nice press. I've kicked around the same thing before

If I ever build one I'm going as wide as possible, maybe 8 inch gap would work.for what I need.

Nice job. Feels great building your own tools don't it. :waytogo: Something to be proud of.

We had an 8 foot couple inch peice of channel that worked perfect to cut into 4 pieces for the head piece and table. Otherwise it woulda been wider but not much more. Im real happy with it. Only thing that bothers me is i got 7018AC rod and it took me a while to get used to it compared to runnin on a DC machine with reguar 7018. So the first welds, which happen to be all the ones you see on the outside look like crap. It penetrated great, but just doesnt look nice. All the inside welds that ya cant see.... Well those look great!:haha:

This thing is the tits for u joints. An old harmonic balancer on the bottom which has the perfect sized center hold to set the yoke on and push the cap out. No more socket and hammer!!!

better watch it

thats a good way to bend the yoke ear's on a shaft. :doah:

good HD vise and 4lb mini sledge hammer and know how to use the 2 if the safe way.

i have bent a set of ear's doing them the wrong way. try and get the clips in then or keep u-joints from going bad real fast.

not saying cant be done but watch your self.

Idk how it would be any different though, the hole on the harmonic balancer is just bigger than the cap and the press head fits perfect on the upper cap to push it down. Vice would be doing the same thing really

dont use the vise as press. only as holding tool.

i will have to do a write up on this with pics to show you how to do it 100% as i was shown by a old school gm trained tech. :thumb:

Gotchya. Thats how i did before, but many is this quick and easy. And i always never seize my yoke before i put u joints back in (done all mine already in the last year) so they slide out pretty easy.

DUDE, seriously, thats a nice press you made. However, be careful calling something "homade", and then posting a picture with your woman next to it...

exaclty, remove the clips, open the vice about 3-4 inches so the ears of the caps are against the vice jaws. Use a sledge and hit the ear of the shaft up top and the lower cap will come out, flip over, set the trunion of the joint into the other cap all the way and hit the ear again untill the other cap comes out. Its really easy once you see it done.

I too was shown by an old school gm trained tech.
