Homebrew body lift....flamesuit ON!!

Don't know if it would be the same but on my First Gen there were I believe three different diameter bolts for the body mounts. Mostly 3/8" and then some 9/16" and I believe 7/16" . So, I don't know if yours will have 1/2" all around.

I wasn't sure either so I got on my creeper & located all the body mounts & unbolted all of them, pulled the bolts out & took one of each different one(there are 4 different sizes & styles) as a sample. Theres six 1/2" hex bolts & four 1/2" carrige bolts.

Can't wait till tomorrow so I can fire up the welder & get this stuff installed!

Then the shackle reversal(I better start asking questions now). Gotta stay busy!!

Thanks- John

heres a gretty easy and fairly strong way to use your stock hangers to make the flip

i also made one that was identical to offroad designs flip but i had a shear at that time so it made it much easier

hope that helps you i did both using 1/4 inch plate

I like the pic of that reversed shackle using factory hangers, I may go that way. Nice job on the other set too, if ORD starts selling templates I just might have to build me some!

mnstrburbon: Sweet truck! I clicked your link to your build thread and am impressed! I really like your 'burban, got a couple ideas. Don't really have much xtra cash to offer for your body lift, + mines only a 2" anyway. But thanks for the offer!

Well, I boxed in six of my blocks today. Get them finished in the morning, and hopefully installed by tomorrow evening.

i have cardboard templates for all the pieces on the flip:D

not a problem shipping would have got it its been sitting for over a year now,.
Thanks for the comp.
Nice work and way to make something from nothing.

Am I wrong or are you planing on useing the square tube on its side?

You said, before someone sugested capping the ends, that you had to drill the holes! This makes me think your going through the side. Rather than up and down and using the natural hole in the tube?

I hope NOT!

Eh I just need to avoid this thread. Im not too kind on people doing things in an unsafe way.

Yeah, I did do it that way. I clamped my end cap peices in a vise and beveled the edges where I was going to weld them, then c-clamped them to the table & carefully welded them up. In my metal fabricators book it says that a good weld is as strong as the surrounding metal, as if it were all one peice. So in therory it should be just as strong up, down, or whatever. I took the finished product down to a local shop & had a weldor that I know look at them. He thought they looked really good & that they should work fine. When I bought the flat bar I took some of my tubing down to guage what size it was, turns out it's 3/16".

Well, for anyone who is interested I finished welding this morning & have the drivers side of the body lift all done(well, I'll have to tighten the bolts after I get the other side in). I'm really happy with the look so far, hood is just at 5'. Nice and tall!

I can take constructive critisism, thats how you learn.

Oh yeah, I don't wheel the wee out of my trucks, just a dirty pavement pounder. Hey, at least I'll admit it!!
