I am looking to, hopefully, do some trading and get a 1987 k30 SRW. I went and looked it it the other day, and for a lift it had the rear shackles flipped. The guy told me this is common practice, and keeps pinion angle correct, I have seen things like this before. On the front, he undone the front of the front leaf springs, put a solid piece of 4x4 tubing across the front of the frame, and bolted the front of the front leaf springs to the tubing, dropping it 4 inches. He said the same about it lifting the truck, and preserving pinion angle. I was wondering if this was also common practice, and correct about preserving pinion angle.

Thanks, have a great day, and be blessed.

A rear shackle flip is common for lift, the question would be the way it's done and if it's done well. The change in pinion angle is a byproduct not the reason for doing a shackle flip.

Dropping the front of the front springs is not a good way to lift. This will point the pinion up BUT it kills the castor angle (alignment) and can cause poor steering characteristics. If I bought a truck done like this I'd take it off and buy springs or...??

if its a good deal then these 2 things are easy to redo / fix the right way.

I kind of thought this also, do not have the truck yet, but was curious about this issue, to help me put a more educated value on the truck.

Thanks

Well you all, I am not getting the k30, thanks for all the info though. I am still looking for a 4x4, so I will be popping up with questions as time goes on, thanks again.
